Belgium, Roman money and artefacts, tombs of the Franks, and feudal constructions like the castle of Durbuy, built in the 11th Century. In 1331 Lord Jean de Bohème gave the title of “City” to Durbuy for services rendered. The dungeon of the village of Izier dates back to the Middle Ages, as do many Roman churches built in nearly every village in the area. The church of Durbuy, Saint Nicolas des Récollets, was constructed in 1675, followed by the Récollectines, its convent.
The 18th century saw the coming of castle-farms, of which many are still standing and occupied.
Durbuy is indeed a fascinating place to visit, a great region to come to rest and enjoy highlights of the Belgian gastronomy.
